Water

Awww... Remember the ice-cold stream at the last reunion and all those super-stars doing the polar bear challenge? Good times!

The ranch we're staying at this summer has a swimming pool, a pond, an irrigation ditch and 2 hot tubs. All of them present a water safety challenge.

  • The pool is enclosed and can also be covered, but a determined 3 year old could still find a way into the water.

  • The irrigation ditch runs across the property and can be up to 3 feet deep. It is not fenced or enclosed.

  • The pond is surrounded by a fence and gate. It is relatively secure, but not fool-proof.

The reunion committee considered several options for providing water safety but in the end the responsibility must fall to the parents to keep their own children safe. You are invited to bring child life jackets and take any other safety precautions you deem necessary.

The Deseret News recently ran an article about who is at high risk for drowning. They reported that children under four and teenagers are the highest risk. Teens? Yikes! A review of basic water safety is smart for all ages. We do ask that everyone please keep a lookout for unattended children near the water.

So now that we've had that little safety spotlight... on with the party!

Leaving the Ranch around 11:00 AM... but the reunion isn't over yet! We will head to Vernal for a fun excursion. The Edwards Family Reunion proper will end *sob* at 5:00 PM.

When the reunion is over you can drive home or extend your stay in Vernal for a while. After all, Vernal is considered "the heartland of dinosaurland!" Boyd and Nadine have a lovely home there and would love visitors. Their home phone number is: 435-781-1931.

Reunion Raffle

We are going to have a raffle at the reunion this year. At the reunion you will have the opportunity to earn "E-Bucks" that can be used to buy treats at the University Pharmacy Store. These bucks will also go into a box for the raffle to be held at the end of the reunion. Sounds like fun! :) You'll learn more about how to earn the bucks when you come to the reunion.

What kind of prizes will be in the raffle? Well, that's where you come in! Will you please bring something to be put into the raffle. It could be as large as a quilt or as small as a jar of homemade jam. A recording of you singing or a CD of your favorite songs. Does it need to be homemade? No. But meaningful--like your favorite movie or card game.

How many items should you bring? That's up to you. At least one main item per family. It would be fun though if everyone wanted to get personally involved. I know Melissa makes some cool hemp bracelets.

Oh! And by the way... the bible will be given away in the raffle.

Who do you call?

We continue to work on the reunion and make plans. We invite feedback from everyone. Here are a few things to guide your planning participation:

The reunion committee is:
  • Catherine
  • Grant
  • Laurel
  • Little Farrell
You may ask: Aren't Mom & Dad on the reunion committee? The short answer is no. They have asked us to take care of all details of the reunion and didn't put themselves on the committee. But please be assured that they have all the input they want. :)

We have assigned a point person to various aspects of the reunion. This is the person primarily responsible and whom you call to give feedback. Assignments:
  • Catherine = food and accommodations.
  • Farrell = activities, itinerary/scheduling and finance.
You are, of course, welcome to call Mom and Dad to discuss the reunion. But if you want to have some actual impact on reunion planning, please call Catherine or me.

Cheers!

Location, location!

Let the countdown begin!
We are so excited about the reunion this summer! And we are having it at just the coolest place ever. Hands down. This is going to be one SERIOUS party.

Besides just the wonderfulness of being together with this awesome family, there will be so much to do at the Hidden Springs Ranch in Altamont, Utah.

Where should we start? Maybe with a dip in the pool? (I'm sure there will be underwater handstand contests for sure.) A ping-pong tournament? Basketball or volleyball? Eating yummy food? Hang out and play games? Then maybe we do a little rock-climbing on the rock wall... or shoot some clay pigeons at the trap range... or round up a game of paintball... go canoeing on one of several lakes... go hiking or mountain biking?

Just where to start is the question! Which leads to the next question: Just how are we going to fit in all this fun-ness the ranch has to offer in the short time we are there? EASY! We aren't going to sleep!! Just because there are beds for all, who needs sleep?? :)

See the ranch? Isn't it cool? How do you like the pond in front? Maybe you're more for the pool in the back. (Yes, parents of small children, the pool is fenced in.) See all of our happy faces there? We're seeing potential for some major memories.

Mark your calendars. Make your plans, get work off, pack your bags... We'll see you there!!
